To the nesters…
November 2025
This year has had me thinking about what’s really important.
In the spirit of transparency, it’s been an odd year to host vacation rentals. The world feels chaotic to say the least. On the one hand, we are able to offer people a space to getaway from that chaos, a space to make memories with family and friends, contribute to the economies of small towns and allow people to slow down a bit.
On the other hand, the housing crisis is very real, and we always grapple with the part we play in that.
I’ve also been thinking about time. How precious it is, how quickly it goes, and how the home you live in helps mark that time. A few years ago, I found out I had a brain tumor. I was one of the lucky ones. After the surgery we found out it was benign. But it taught me about priorities, and the value of having time.
This year, we decided to say goodbye to our Snug property. A home that we, (and hopefully some of you) have loved. We looked at each other and realized we were spending more time managing and fixing problems than being with each other or our children. And yes, money is nice and important, but not as much as time together. So the decision became clear- we had to remove something from our plate.
My zodiac sign is Cancer, so I’m a nester. I love my home, my space. It’s personal to me, and I get deeply sentimental about the home I live in. Joe is always a little more pragmatic, but I find deciding to leave or sell a home is a giant marker of time in your life. There are memories associated with that place, those smells and spaces. For me, the Snug wasn’t just a rental- it was also our home. And it was bittersweet to say goodbye.
If you visit the Berkshires again, we still live here (in a new town) and will still be renting the West Rd property…and maybe another surprise up our sleeves. We hope you’ll come back and stay. But for now, I’d encourage you to think about the most important currency- your time. How are you spending it? What do you want more of? Less of? And who is there with you? I hope you find more of what you wish for throughout this holiday season and into next year. And thank you, for being part of our story, in our little Berkshire neck of the woods.
To our little cabin in the woods,
We loved here, Our children grew here, I healed here.
You held us. Thank you, sweet home.
